ACLU Postcard Illustration

I was commissioned by the ACLU to create an illustration for their Impact Postcard highlighting the intersectionality of digital privacy, surveillance, policing, and racial justice. The postcard was sent to 49,000 donors to highlight the win of ACLU pushing Amazon to no longer provide police departments with facial recognition software and the work that needs to be done to further this progress.
I created 3 characters to represent the people who are targeted by racially biased surveillance as well as the people who have rallied together to prevent this from continuing. The characters are being surveilled by a camera and within the camera view there are icons to represent identity, surveillance and technology. Their hands are up, blocking the camera’s view, to symbolize their resistance and fight for justice.
